John Sassamon’s body is discovered in Lakeville.
January 29, 1675
A Native American and former resident of Dorchester, Sassamon is found dead at Assawampsett Pond shortly after he warned that Metacom was planning an attack on English settlements. Three Native Americans believed to have killed Sassamon are executed at New Plymouth on June 8, 1675, prompting an attack a few weeks later.*
