Castle William and Mary (fourth) is built on Castle Island.
1673
The new fort is inspected during what M.A. Sweetser later calls “one of the earliest official junkets in Boston” when “Itt is ordered, that the whole Court on the morrow morning goe to the Castle to view it, as it is now finisht, & see how the countrys money is layde out thereupon, & that on the countrys charge; which was donn.” It is replaced by a new building in 1703.*
