The first fire code in Boston, it requires every household to provide a ladder and “a pole of about 12 feet long, with a good large sob at the end of it, to rech to the rofe.” The town also appoints a ladder inspector, buys several ladders and “fower strong Iron Crooks” to pull down houses.
