John Winthrop marries Martha Nowell Cotymore.

Winthrop’s fourth wife is the widow of Thomas Cotymore of Charlestown and the sister of the colony’s treasurer Increase Nowell. The couple’s only child, Joshua, is born on December 17, 1648.
