Oliver’s Dock is created.

1643

Town Meeting authorizes creation of an enclosed dock in a marshy area west of today’s Liberty Square between Water Street and Hawes Street. It is subsequently named for Peter Oliver, who acquired most of the surrounding area in the 1650s and 1660s. A subsidiary dock, known as Atkinson’s Dock, is also created in the area of today’s Post Office Square.
