Roslindale is founded.
October 8, 1639
(OS-9/28) Originally part of Roxbury, Roslindale begins as a farming area and remains rural well into the 19th century. It becomes part of the town of West Roxbury in 1851,* and is annexed by Boston in 1874.* Extension of streetcar lines opens up the area for residential development in the last half of the 19th century, and today it is an area made up largely of single-family and two-family homes.
