Large number of immigrants arrive in Boston.

(Summer) John Winthrop writes in his journal, “there came over the summer 20 ships, and at least 3,000 persons.” As a result, he writes, “they were forced to look out new plantations,” which include today’s towns of Salisbury, Sudbury, and Hampton, New Hampshire.
