Jonathan Josselyn discovers what he describes as “a fruit like a pineapple” on Boston Common.

Unfortunately for the visiting English naturalist, the “fruit” turns out to be a hornet’s nest. Josselyn suffers stings to his upper lip, which “so disfigured his face that he became unrecognizable and was only known by the clothes he wore.”
