Two men are hanged on Boston Common.
September 28, 1637
William Schouler (Schooler) is hanged for killing a servant girl whose body was found in the woods by a Native American and John Williams for murdering a man with whom he had escaped from prison. They are the first executions to be held in Boston, and said to be held on Boston Common (although some executions said to be held there may have been held on other “common lands,” including Boston Neck, until 1822*).
