Boston population is estimated at 175.
1631
The population is dramatically reduced from the number of original settlers. According to Thomas Dudley, “There died by estimation 200 at least, so low hath the Lord brought us.” The Great Migration, which continues until 1641, subsequently brings some 20,000 English Puritans to New England, 13,000 of them to Massachusetts. By the end of the year, Boston’s population is slightly more than 200. The number of new arrivals to Boston begins to grow in 1633 and continues to increase for the rest of the decade.
