Agreement at Cambridge is signed in England.

September 5, 1629

(OS 8/26) It is signed during a series of meetings at Emmanuel College in Cambridge. The document pledges that the officers of the Massachusetts Bay Company will move to New England the following year, and that the company’s charter, unlike those issued to other groups, will accompany them to America. Josiah Quincy later calls the agreement “The first and original declaration of independence.”
