Massasoit (Ousamequin) visits New Plymouth.

March 22, 1621

Using Squanto (Tisquantum) as his interpreter, the Wampanoag sachem negotiates a peace and trade agreement with the European settlers. Squanto stays on with the settlers for the winter, teaching them skills that help them to survive. But after taking advantage of his role for his own gain, he falls out of favor with Massasoit and dies in November 1623.
