Endicott (John) is born in Devon, England.
1589
(ca.) The son of John and Alice (Westlake) Endecott, John Endicott marries Ann Gower, and becomes a member of the the Massachusetts Bay Company settlers that arrive in Salem (then Naumkeag) in 1628. He meets with resistance from the group that had already settled in Salem led by Roger Conant, which maintains that it had purchased the rights to the area from the Dorchester Company. Endicott subsequently marries Elizabeth Gibson, serves as governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony (1644, 1645, 1649-55), moves to Boston, and lives near today’s 2 Center Plaza from 1655 to 1665. He dies in Boston on March 15, 1665, and is buried at the Granary Burying Ground.
